Important Types Of Farming Equipment To Purchase For Your Small Farm

by Jared De Hooge

If you are preparing to set up your small farm, then you're going to need to purchase the right equipment. There is actually a variety of different types of farming equipment out there that you can choose from, and you might be a bit overwhelmed and unsure of what, exactly, is needed for your smaller farming operation. You may want to start by shopping for the following things.

Tractor

First of all, you are probably going to need at least one tractor for your small farm. A tractor can be used for taking care of land and livestock, planting crops, and more. Tractors come in many sizes, so you should consider the size of your farm when you're making your choice. You'll want to choose a tractor that is large enough to do the jobs that you need it to do, but at the same time, you'll probably want to go with a smaller tractor if you have a smaller piece of land to care for.

Tractor Attachments

Of course, purchasing a tractor alone is not enough. After all, if you want to be able to do as much with your tractor as possible, you will need to invest in attachments that can be used for things like cutting grass, spreading out dirt, hauling hay, planting crops, picking crops, and more.

UTV

In addition to looking at tractors, if you have acreage to take care of, you will probably find that a UTV is very handy for managing your small farm. For one thing, walking around to take care of different tasks on your farm can be exhausting and time-consuming, especially if you have a lot of land. Plus, it can be challenging to carry feed, tools, supplies, and other items that you might need while you're working. At the same time, you might not want to drive your truck or another vehicle for these tasks; it might seem like a waste of fuel, or you might be worried that you won't be able to drive your vehicle over muddy or rougher terrain. You might also be worried that you won't be able to take your vehicle into tight spots. Because of this, it's a good idea to purchase a UTV. A UTV can be very handy on a farm since it allows you to drive from area to area on your farm. You'll have room for bringing along one or more passengers and all of your tools and gear. You should find that driving a UTV on less-than-ideal terrain on your farm is easy, and you should be able to navigate your UTV into small spaces, too.
